Floor design is one major part of your interiors that guests notice upon entering your home. There are different types of floor designs for everyone’s taste and budget, but in the Philippines where temperature can be very dry (and cold), experts suggest that you get a hardwood floor, which can either be laminate or engineered.
Engineered hardwood floor
For starters, an engineered flooring using hardwood is technically more durable and susceptible to weather changes. Wood floors tend to expand, warp and crack due to an extreme climate.
This type uses sliced pieces of wood that are combined with plywood which makes it more sustainable compared to a laminated or vinyl hardwood. An engineered floor normally uses the entire tree which means that less waste for you and your manufacturer.
When it comes to installation, an engineered hardwood is easier to furnish over a subfloor or concrete. It weighs upon better against humidity compared to solid or natural hardwood, which is advisable for residents living in tropical areas.
However, responsive to this kind of weather, it needs waterproofing and fixing dents or cracks before lodging the wood.
Laminate flooring
If you want an affordable floor pattern or material, a laminate floor is your best bet. It’s a layer of wood attached to the subfloor that is actually an imitation of a variety of materials which can complement the interior design of your home.
You can opt to have a different wood or even go for a stone design, leather or ceramic tile instead. The top layer of a laminate floor is masked with a coating of resin that can resist markings and scratches from shoes and your pets. You can also ask your designer to select a more realistic version of your chosen floor pattern.
Most people prefer this process because it’s easier to be done and can save them a lot more than an engineered floor.
In laminate flooring, the wood is put together and glued onto an underlayment pad. Laminate flooring can actually be accomplished without professional help. It can go over your old flooring without having to remove anything from its original plan.
BellaVita has a variety of houses that present these types of floor designs. If you’re interested in looking into houses near you, you can visit their Facebook page for more information.
We have laminate in our home and it is far from what it used to be, it actually looks really nice. We ended up going for it over hardwood as it is easier to keep clean and we had a dog at the time who was a nightmare for brining in dirt and mess!
We just replaced our carpet with wood loooking vinyl and I love it. It is so easy to keep clean.
I personally love hardwood floors. I would gladly spend the extra to have nice looking floors.
Although I love the look of hardwood floors they are always much more pricey. Laminate can be a great choice for those that are trying to cover up a floor that is even and you just want to freshen up your look. Thank you for your post.
I have always wanted hardwood floors like my parents put in. But when it came time to do the the floos in our “new” house after our 10/2018 house fire I realize that hardwood was out of our budget. So we went with vinyl plank and board tile. They kinda float or something. They interlock but don’t have to be glued down. It I could do it over again I would have gone with a lighter wood.
There are so many options out there! We bought hardwood but laminate is so nice and so convenient these days.
The right flooring is everything in a room. It’s a big way to make a great impact or give a good vibe/feeling to the room.
I guess both are great options, but we just had vinyl flooring installed and love it.
We have laminate flooring in one of our rooms, and I agree it’s quite affordable! Thanks for sharing the info 🙂
